What Cannot Be Done With Tiki

Please insert your external tools that you use instead of Tiki. Explain why you don't use Tiki for that specific task.

Managing CAE/CAD/CAM files

Computer-Aided Engineering/Design/Manufacturing data sets can be extremely large, even for relatively simple products, and often depend upon links between files that can only be maintained with specialized software (e.g. Solid Edge Insight).

Formal control of design documents

Although Tiki is a great medium in which to develop documents like Design Inputs, Failure Mode & Effects Analysis, etc., formal design control systems require rigorous approval and control processes. This is especially true for industries regulated by government bodies such as the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, which has strict requirements for validation of software used in the design & manufacture of drugs and medical devices.

Critical path scheduling

As problematic as Microsoft Project can be, one of its key features is the ability to calculate and display the critical path of a project. (Why it's not always set up to do this by default is a mystery.) Any project of sufficient size being managed in an organization of sufficient project management skill is going to involve some application which can automatically highlight the portion of the GANTT chart which most directly controls the end date. Unless a critical path algorithm can be implemented in Tiki, any graphical scheduling features are likely to go unused in favor of MS Project or a similar app.
